Mounting Types
Direct Bottom Entry
Stem exits straight down from the case centre — the standard choice for vertical pipe runs and top-entry tank connections. Available on all dial sizes except 50 mm.
Direct Center Back Entry
Stem exits directly behind the case, in line with the dial — ideal for horizontal pipe runs viewed face-on. Available across all dial sizes.
Every Angle Back Entry
The dial housing rotates independently of the stem so the face can be angled toward the operator regardless of pipe orientation. Available NS 80mm and above, with external zero adjustment.
A fourth option — Type 14, bottom entry through elbow — routes the stem downward via a 90° elbow behind the case, useful where the process connection is below the viewing line. Available NS 63mm and above.

How a Bimetal Thermometer Like the CB Model Actually Works

Bimetal Strip
Two metal strips with different thermal expansion coefficients are bonded together and coiled inside the stem.
Thermal Expansion
As process temperature rises, one metal expands faster than the other, causing the coil to twist proportionally to temperature.

The twisting coil is mechanically linked to the dial pointer shaft, converting rotational movement into a direct angular reading.

1. Dial Size
Match viewing distance to dial size — the further the operator stands from the gauge, the larger the dial should be.
- Panel/OEM skid, close viewing: 50–63 mm
- Standard pipe run, arm's-length viewing: 80–100 mm
- Elevated or distant viewing: 125–150 mm
2. Stem Length
Stem length must achieve adequate immersion depth into the process stream, not just reach the pipe wall.
- Small pipes (under 2"): use a thermowell with a stem sized to reach the pipe centreline
- Large vessels: confirm minimum immersion length per the stem-diameter/range selection table
- Never select a stem shorter than the minimum immersion length for your chosen range
3. Mounting Type
Choose based on pipe orientation and the direction from which the gauge will be read.
- Vertical pipe/top-entry tank: Type 2 (bottom entry)
- Horizontal pipe, viewed face-on: Type 4 (back entry)
- Pipe orientation doesn't match viewing angle: Type 8 (every angle)
4. Temperature Range
